Shefi i forcave ajrore të Shteteve të Bashkuara në Irak, Rus Hendi, tha sot se SHBA-të janë “shumë afër” shitjes së 18 aeroplanave luftarakë F-16 në Irak.
Iraku e kishte bllokuar marrëveshjen në vlerë prej 4.2 miliardë dollarësh, pasi filluan protestat në Pranverën Arabe, por zyrtari i lartë ushtarak amerikan, Majkël Donli, e kishte vizituar Bagdadin më herët këtë muaj, për biseda për shitjen e aeroplanave luftarakë.
Vizita e tij u bë në kohën kur kryeministri i Irakut, Nuri al-Maliki, tha në fund të muajit korrik, se negociatat për blerjen e aeroplanave F-16, ishin në zhvillim e sipër dhe se Iraku dëshironte dyfishimin e urdhërit fillestar.
