Bërthama e Tokës ka një përqindje shumë më të vogël oksigjeni nga ajo që besohej. Rezultati i një studimi tregon se sasia e oksigjenit nuk i kalon 2.5% ndërsa më parë besohej se ajo ishte në nivelin 10%.

Përfundimet kanë dalë nga një studim i kryer nga një ekip studiuesish të udhëhequr nga “Carnegie Institution” SHBA.
