Phoinike gjendet rreth 8 km në brendësi nga qyteti i Sarandës, në bregdetin e detit Jon në Shqipërinë e Jugut, rreth 20 km nga kufiri grek. Brenda zonёs sё parkut pёrfshihen rrёnojat e qytetit antik.
Dëshmitë e shumta të burimeve të lashta, na flasin për pasurinë e madhe të qytetit, veçanërisht në periudhën helenistike, midis shekujve III e II p.e.s, kur është i njohur roli parësor i qytetit në lidhjen epirote. Phoinike organizoi brenda mureve të saj nënshkrimin e traktatit që i dha fund Luftës së Parë Maqedonase, traktat i njohur me emrin "Paqja e Phoinike-s".
Nga gërmimet kanë dalë në dritë rrënojat e një akropoli, teatri, nekropoli, disa banesa, muret rrethuese, disa stërna uji, dhe të një agoraje.AKT
