"Maybach-Motorenbau" u themelua si kompani ne vitin 1909 nga Wilhelm Maybach dhe i biri Karl Maybach si drejtor i kompanise. Kompania ne fillim prodhonte vetem motorre diezel ose benzine per makina dhe me pas autovetura te medha dhe lluksoze.
Ne vitin 1997 Mercedes-Benz paraqiti ne Tokyo Motorshow nje makine ultra-lluks me emrin Mercedes-Benz Maybach (V12, 5987 cc, 550 hp). Koncepti ishte i suksesshem dhe ata
vendosen ta prodhonin kete makine. Gjithsesi Mercedes vendosi qe ne treg makina te dilte me emrin e vetem Maybach.
