Kartografet që po punojnë me edicionin e ri të Atlasit bashkëkohor të botës janë detyruar të fshijnë 15% të akullit nga ishulli më i madh i globit. Ne Groenlandë, nje zone me permasat e Britanise dhe Irlandes eshte tashme e gjelbert. Per kete arsye, eshte dashur te hiqet ne harte shtresa dikur e perhershme e akullit, nje reflektim i qarte ky i shkrirjes se akullnajave ne keto 12 vitet e fundit si pasoje direkt e ngrohjes globale.

Atlasi permban edhe nje ishull te ri prane brigjeve te Groenlandes, i cili quhet "Ishulli i ngrohte", qe deri vone nuk kalohej ne harta per shkak te akullit. Nje sere ndryshimesh te tjera mjedisore shfaqen ne harten e botes, perfshire shkeputjen e masivit akullnajor Wilkins ne Antarktide dhe shembjen e ures se ngrire qe e lidhte me ishujt Charcot.

"Me cdo edicion te ri te Atlasit, po u afrojme njerezve ne te gjithe boten nje tablo me te qarte e te rifreskuar te planetit tone", - thote botuesi Jethro Lennox.- Dhe ne cdo harte te re qe krijohet, mund t'i shohim ndryshimet e mjedisit ashtu sic ndodhin ne te vertet. Fatkeqesisht, gjithmone e shume shtohet frika se ne nje te ardhme jo shume te larget, tipare te rendesishme gjeografike do te zhduken nje here e pergjithmone".

Atlasi i ri tregon edhe zonat me te rrezikuara nga rritja e nivelit te deteve, perfshire ketu ishujt e Paqesorit dhe arkipelaget, ishujt ne Qqeanin Indian dhe brigjet e Afrikes, Indise, Azise jug-lindore dhe Gjirit te Meksikes. Per hartimin e tij punuan per kater vjet 30 kartografe. Ky edicion tregon edhe se 90% e rritjes se popullsise se botes, qe ne fund te tetorit pritet te shenoje 7 miliarde, po vjen kryesisht nga vendet me pak te zhvilluara, sidomos nga Azia Juglindore. /Shqiperia
