The DORIANS !!!!

Dorians were very tall and very warlike. Ancient pictures of Dorian Spartans contained in them warriors with dark hair with reddish tone. Also they had tribal order, blood feuds, and possessed 'lyra' . (it is possible that the region Illyria was named after lyra and first time the name Illyria was mentioned was in 4 - th century BC). According to Hellenic mythology name Illyrians is derived from the son of Cadmus and Harmonia - Illyrius. The ruler of Dorians represented both a spiritual leader and a military leader. According to the legend Dorians got their name from one of the Helen's sons called Dorus. Some of the Dorians attacked South Greece from the direction of Macedonia, south Illyria and Epirus in 12 and 11 cen.BC . They took islands of Crete, Dodecanese and other Aegean islands also Lakonia, Argolis, and Korintos in the Peloponesos peninsula. Famous Sparta was a Doric settlement.
Soutn Illyrians (original Illyrians, Ardideans, belong to southern Illyrians) are descendants of earlier Dorians and first time are mentioned in recorded history in 4 cen.BC. Modern history informs us that the earliest Illyrian ruler was called Hylus who lived around 12 cen.BC . His name is identical with the name of one of the major three Dorian tribes which invaded south Greece from the direction of Macedonia and Illyria in the same time frame (12,11cen.BC). Ancient Macedonians considered Illyrians and Thracians as their close kin.
"Races of Europe" Carlton S. Coon Chapter 12:The living Races 1939

-Coon: on Slavicized Albanians of Montenegro:
`The Montenegrins, who are the tallest people in Europe... are linguistically Serbs, but there can be no question that they are to a large extent Slavicized Albanians; the cultural continuity between the two peoples is striking, the only real differences being those of language and religion`.

`Races of Europe' Carlton S. Coon Chapter 14:The Greeks 1939

"Coon on Sphakiot , Montenegrin and Ghegh Albanian similarities:
`One special group, the Sphakiots, living near the western end of the south side of the island, differ from the other Cretans in a number of characters; they are very tall, with a mean stature of 175 cm., and meso- to sub-brachycephalic, with a mean cephalic index of 81.6... Morphologically Dinaric types are common among them; they may be compared with Montenegrins and the northernmost Ghegs`.

Coon on the Dorian Greeks and the Sphakiots:
`According to the general assumption of authorities on Crete, the Sphakioti are the partial descendants of the Dorians who invaded the island at the end of the Minoan period. That some of them do resemble the traditional Spartan type is very likely.
One can only derive them from the north, from the region in which the larger branch of the Dinaric race was formed`.

NOTES:
If Coon states that Sphakiots are descendants of Dorians and that they're `racially` identical to Montenegrins and Ghegh Albanians -- right after also stating that Montenegrins are just Slavicized Albanians -- Coon is indirectly supporting an Albanian origin for the Dorian Greeks!

Probably the most ancient helmet design still used in Greece at the time of the Persian Wars was the Illyrian. The origins of this helmet trace back the ancient Mycenians sometime in the late 2nd millennia BC, making it the "grand-daddy" of all Greek helmets. While its ancestry is venerable, the actual Illyrian style did not appear until 7th century BC. The Corinthian is related to the Illyrian, differing slightly in method of construction and configuration. Instead of using a single piece of bronze, early Illyrian helmets were manufactured by pounding two pieces of bronze into the desired shape and then welded together on the crown, the seam often being covered by a crest holder. Later a single sheet of bronze was used, resulting in a heavy helmet that gave excellent protection to the head and cheeks. Configuration-wise the Illyrian was extremely similar to the Corinthian except that it had an open face with no nasal bar and smaller cheek guards. As with the Corinthian, the Illyrian style helmet rendered the wearer deaf and (as with the former) the Illyrian was also modified to allow for the ears to protrude outside the helmet. The Illyrian had become rare in the ranks by the time of Alexander the Great.
